The larger a story becomes, the more work it takes to track what needs to be done.
For this reason, NovaScriber has three ways to mark and track things to do.
- By marking the status of a chapter or document
- By adding a simple “actions to take” note
- By adding one or more “to do” items to your document
We will handle each option in brief below.
1: Marking the status of a chapter or document

Click on the “Status” drop down the side bar of your document and select where your document is at that moment.
The status will be reflected as a colored asterix in the items in your project tree on the left hand side of the screen, as shown below.
Project tree: asterisks representing status

In the screenshot above, you see several asterisks in the project tree, representing a “todo” based on the document status. The darker the color, the more work there is to do.
2: Using “Notes on actions to take”

“Notes on actions to take” in the side panel is a simple way to register per document what needs to happen.
Using the Outline view to find documents “to do”

Select the “Outline” view in the navigation panel and check “To do” in the options bar of the navigation panel to isolate the documents with a “to do”, either based on your notes, or on to-do items added to that document (see below)
3: Adding to-do items to the document

Right-click on the “to do” section of the side-panel, to add a to-do item.
NovaScriber already has several common actions in a menu-structure, to simplify the process of adding to-do’s to a document. Naturally you can define your own in the popup that will appear.
The result will look like this:

To-do items can be dragged from one status to another. When dragged in “done” it will be colored green.
Presentation in the “Plot” overview

Right click to add a to do item.

In the “Plot” overview, the to-do items will be presented in the matrix of elements, as shown above.
Todo items can be dragged from one status to another.
In the outline

Unless you explicitly exclude to-do items from the outline, they will be presented there as well, to communicate the status on specific parts of the document.
When an item is done, it is considered irrelevant for the outline.
