Like most editors, NovaScriber automatically saves all changes to your document. Additionally, it automatically makes a backup each time your text is saved.
Daily and hourly backups

These backups are grouped as follows:
- Autosaved per hour – maximum of 5 autosaves per machine
- Autosaved per day – maximum of 1 daily autosave per machine
The name of each auto-backup includes the name of your user account. So when you are logged in as “John Doe”, the name of the backup will be: “2019-05-03 by John Doe“.
Backups from multiple machines
When you work on multiple machines, or collaborate with other authors on one single project, and synchronize your project with their data, you will also get their auto-saved backups.
Viewing a backup

Click on the name of a backup to see the differences between your current text and that specific backup.
The auto-backup is presented in its own panel. Text no longer in your current version is marked red. Text not present in your backup is marked green.
Matching current text with the backup

In the screenshot above, the text starting with “Ringwereld 89” is highlighted with yellow in the backup. (As this paragraph was moved elsewhere in the document, since the backup, it shows as “deleted” in the backup.)
The text is in the backup highlighted because it has a matching id with the paragraph that is “active” in your current document. (The cursor can be found at the start of the word “hoofd”). That paragraph in the editor becames active, either when you click on it, or when you move your cursor there.
This will help you to easily compare your current text with the backup.
Comparing the auto-backup with your text

Click on any paragraph in the auto-backup to find its location in your current text. In the screenshot above, we clicked on the paragraph containing: “We willen dat je…”
To make matching text and differences from your backup even simpler, you can press the <shift> key and mouse over any paragraph in your backup to automatically find and highlight any matching paragraph in your current text.
Viewing the text from the backup

Click on “text” in the backup panel to see the text as it is stored in the backup.
The same rules apply here for interactions between your current text and the text from your auto-backup. Click on an item in the backup and it will highlight the matching paragraph in your current text. Click on a paragraph in your current text and it will be highlighted in the backup.
Added /removed

In the “Added/removed” view, the changes are more explicitly highlighted, showing you more explicitly what has been added and what has been removed in relationship between the backup and your current text.
Making a specific snapshot
To make a specific, named snapshot of your text, click on the “save” icon next to the “BI” button above your current text.
This will conjure a popup in which you can state the name of your snapshot. Click “OK” to save that snapshot. Click “cancel” to cancel the snapshot.
Restore a backup
Click on “Restore” to restore your backup and make it your current text.
Before you do so, you might want to save your current text in a named snapshot.
